How reviews work

Employers and candidates both review recruitment agencies here, and every review is read by a person before it goes live. This page explains what we show, what we count, and what agencies can and can’t do.

Two kinds of reviewer

  • Employers who used the agency to hire review it on shortlist quality, market knowledge, how the agency represented them, and communication.
  • Candidates the agency represented review it on feedback, interview preparation, honesty and respect.

Each group answers only what it actually saw, and each gets its own score. We never blend them into one number.

Candidates record every step

A recruiter can’t promise you the job, but they can get you seen. So candidates tell us how far the agency got them: how many companies their CV went to, how many interviews and offers they had, and whether those were companies they wanted to work for. You can update your review later as your search moves on.

What counts towards a score

A score appears once an agency has 3 counted reviews from that group. A review counts when:

  • the reviewer has confirmed their email address;
  • the reviewer said they were not offered anything for writing it;
  • the search it describes is finished. Reviews written mid-search count once the reviewer marks them finished, or after 60 days.

Employers should use their work email. Reviews from personal email addresses are shown but not counted. Reviews that don’t count yet are still listed, with a label saying why.

Badges

Badges are earned by these published rules, and nobody can buy one. A badge disappears automatically when an agency no longer meets its rule. They look at the last 24 months. Only reviews that came through an agency’s review link, or where we’ve seen evidence, count towards badges. Percentage badges are statistically tested, so a handful of reviews can’t earn one.

  • Employer-backed: 3 or more verified employer reviews.
  • Hires made: 3 or more verified employers reported a hire.
  • Clients come back: most verified employers would use the agency again (5 or more reviews).
  • Knows [region]: market knowledge rated 4.5 or higher by 5 or more verified employers.
  • Gets candidates interviews: most verified candidates got at least one interview (10 or more reviews).
  • Opens doors to top brands: many verified candidates said their CV went to their dream employers (10 or more reviews).
  • Turns interviews into offers: a high share of interviewed candidates got an offer (10 or more).
  • Prepares candidates well: interview preparation rated 4.5 or higher by 10 or more verified candidates.
  • Gives feedback: feedback rated 4.3 or higher by 10 or more verified candidates.
  • CVs sent with permission: fewer than 1 in 20 verified candidates report their CV being sent without asking, and none in the last 12 months (10 or more reviews).

Reviewers are anonymous

We never show a reviewer’s name or email, and we never tell the agency who wrote a review. Reviews show the month, not the exact date. An employer’s sector and company size appear only when at least 3 employers who reviewed that agency share them. We reveal a reviewer’s identity only if the law makes us (for example under a court order), or if the reviewer chooses to share it to defend their review against a legal complaint.

Every review is moderated

A person reads every review, and every update to one, before it appears. We check it against our review guidelines.

Review links: “Invited by agency”

An agency that has claimed its profile can send review links to the candidates it represents, at any stage of their search. Each link works once and expires after 90 days. To protect reviewers, agencies can’t see which of their links have been used. Anyone can still write a review without a link.

Agencies that use review links must:

  • offer them to every candidate they represent, not only the happy ones;
  • never offer anything in return for a review, or for changing one;
  • never tell a reviewer what to write.

Reviews that came through a link are labelled “Invited by agency”. Each agency’s page shows how many links it created and how many published reviews came from them, so you can judge for yourself. We check these numbers, and we can suspend an agency’s review links if it breaks the rules. UK consumer law (the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024) treats asking only satisfied customers, without saying so, as a misleading practice. These rules keep both us and the agencies on the right side of it.

Agencies can reply, but never delete

A claimed agency can post a public reply to any review, and the reply is labelled as coming from the agency. We email the reviewer when the agency replies. The reviewer can then update their review if they want to; it will show “Updated after the agency replied”. No agency can edit, hide or remove a review.

“Not our client or candidate”

If an agency believes a reviewer never dealt with it, it can tell us. We ask the reviewer to show us something that links them to the agency, such as an email from the recruiter. We use that only to check, never pass it to the agency, and delete it afterwards. We tell the agency our decision within 5 working days. The review stays up while we check. Each review can be disputed once.

Something wrong with a review?

Use the Report link under the review. We’ll email you a link to confirm your address; nothing happens until you click it.

  • If it breaks our guidelines (for example it names a person, or isn’t a genuine experience), a moderator decides within 5 working days and tells you the outcome.
  • If it is defamatory of you or your business, you can send a notice of complaint under section 5 of the Defamation Act 2013. A moderator checks it and passes it to the reviewer within 2 working days. The reviewer then has 5 working days (weekends and bank holidays don’t count) to tell us whether they want the review removed. To keep it, they must give us their real full name and postal address. If they don’t answer in time, give details that are obviously false, or can’t be reached, we remove the review.

Whenever we remove a review, we tell the person who wrote it.
